6x05 Lighthouse: Recap
2004
Jack finds yet another mark, this time on his abdomen, an appendix scar - his mother says he was 7 and collapsed in school and had to have it removed. [In Timeline 1 Jack’s appendix was removed on the island] Jack has a son named David. Jack used to read Alice to David as a kid. Jack doesn’t want a drink at his mom’s, she’s proud of him for it. David was very upset at the funeral for Christian. David is missing when Jack gets home from helping his mother find Christian’s will, in which Claire Littleton is mentioned. Jack looks for David at his (presumed) ex-wife’s house. David is a musician, he keeps pictures of him and Jack on his mirror. David is at an audition, playing the piano, Jack attends. Dogen is there! Dogen tells Jack his son has a gift. David didn’t tell Jack where he was going because he didn’t want him to see him fail. Jack tells David, “In my eyes you can never fail”.
2007
Hurley sees Jacob at the fountain, Jacob tells Hurley to help the person coming to the island find it. Hurley writes instructions on his arm, goes to a secret hall with glyphs, gets caught by Dogen. Jacob tells Hurley to tell Dogen he is one of the candidates and can do as he pleases, so Dogen leaves. Jacob tells Hurley to tell Jack “You have what it takes”, so Jack will go with him. Jack stumbles upon Kate when Hurley is leading him on his quest. Jack wants Kate to come, Hurley says no, Jack insists, Kate doesn’t want to go with them anyway. Jack tells Kate something happened to Claire, Kate goes off to the beach camp to find her. Hurley apologizes for wrecking Jack’s game with Kate, asks why they never had kids, Jack says he’d make a terrible father. Jack steps on Shannon’s asthma inhaler, they have arrived at the caves they once lived in. Hurley hypothesizes the skeletons [Adam and Eve] are actually them after they timetravel back and die. Jack tells Hurley about following his father to find the caves, sees the coffin he smashed. Hurley came back because Jacob told him he was supposed to, Jack came back because he was broken and though the island could fix him. They eventually reach a lighthouse, Hurley says they haven’t seen it before because they haven’t been looking for it. Jack kicks down the door to get into the lighthouse. The lighthouse uses mirrors because (Hurley surmises) there was no electricity when it was built. The mirrors need to be turned to 108 degrees. Jack catches a glimpse of something as Hurley turns the mirrors. The degrees correspond with names, 23 degrees shows the house Jack grew up in. Angry Jacob isn’t there to provide answers, Jack smashes all the mirrors. Later Jacob tells Hugo some people you can just tell what needs to be done, and some people need to sit and stare out into the ocean, revealing that Jack seeing his house in the mirrors was part of his plan. Jacob reveals he had to make sure Hurley and Jack got away from the temple, because someone was coming there, and he didn’t tell Hurley the whole plan because he couldn’t risk him not coming.
Claire helps Jin out of the trap she set, he passes out. Claire brings Jin and eventually an injured Justin back to her hut, in which she has a bassinet with a “baby” constructed of things from the island. Claire wants to ask Justin (now bound) where the Others are keeping Aaron, while she’s out of the hut, Justin tries to get Jin to untie him, says Claire wants to kill them. Claire’s father and “friend” told her the Other’s took her baby. Claire has been living in the wild for the last three years, and has been captured by the Others (shows Jin the branding mark). She sets traps because they come after her. Claire threatens Justin, asking where Aaron is. Before she can kill Justin, Jin reveals Kate took Aaron off the island and he is now 3. Justin begs for his life, Claire kills him anyway. Jin lies to Claire, says Kate doesn’t really have Aaron, but the Others have the baby. Claire is happy to no longer have to kill Kate. Flocke walks in, Claire says, “That’s not John, that’s my friend.”
