LA X, Parts 1 & 2: The List

KEY MOMENTS
Timeline #1 (2004)

• Rose now comforts Jack through turbulence
• Desmond is on Oceanic 815 and sits next to Jack (who seems to recognize him)
• Jack and Sayid help Charlie, who tries to kill himself
• Hurley says that he’s luckiest man in the world
• Shannon does not come back with Boone to LA
• Island is submerged at the bottom of the ocean
• Charlie is taken away in handcuffs by the police
• Kate escapes from the Marshall (runs into Sawyer along the way)
• Jack and John Locke have a meaningful encounter (Jack offers John a free consult)
• Jin gets held up in customs for having a large sum of money in his suitcase

Timeline #2 (2007)

• After Juliet detonates the bomb, the Losties in 1977 are transported to 2007.
• Sawyer blames Jack for Juliet’s death.
• Jacob appears to Hurley.  He tells him that he’s dead and that in order to save Sayid, they must go to the Temple (and bring his guitar case).
• Miles hears Juliet’s final thoughts: “It worked.”
• The Losties are captured by the Others at the Temple.
• Two new characters: a Japanese man who appears to be their leader (Dogan) and his translator (Lennon).
• The Others agree to help after they find the wooden Ankh in Hurley’s guitar case with a note from Jacob.
• Sayid is taken to the Temple be healed but the “healing water” is red (rather than white).  They continue anyway and Sayid dies.
• Sawyer and Miles are taken to the Temple with the other Losties.
• Hurley reveals that Jacob is dead to the Others, who then sound an alarm.
• On the beach, it is revealed that Fake Locke/Man In Black is also the Smoke Monster when he takes out Jacob’s “bodyguards”.
• Everyone on the beach, including Ben, now know that real Locke is dead.
• Richard recognizes the Man in Black who knocks him out and carries him off.

WTF

• There are two timelines / alternate realities
• The entire island is underwater in the no-crash timeline
• Desmond is on Oceanic 815 
• The large ankh in Hurley’s guitar case and Dogan breaking it to reveal another “list”
• Fake Locke = The Man In Black = Smoke Monster!
• Fake Locke slamming Richard in the chest and throwing him over his shoulder.

2. Who/what is the Smoke monster?
It is one of the many forms of the Man in Black.

9. What’s the deal with Richard Alpert?
We now know that he was once in chains, and knew and feared the Man in Black.

48. Who are Ilana and her group?
The Man in Black described them as Jacob’s “bodyguards”.

49. Is Hurley “special” too?
Yes, he really can see and speak to dead people.

64. Are the Others aware of Jacob’s Nemesis?
Yes.  When Hurley tells the Temple Others that Jacob is dead, they sound an alarm and place a circle of ash around the Temple to keep “him” out.
